ASDC expressed anguish over Govt’s apathy
Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) Dima Hasao District Committee has strongly expressed its anguish against the State Government of Assam and the Central Government for keeping a continued and long confinement of Mr Mohet Hojai, Former Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council(DHAC) without releasing him even on bail since his arrest on 29th May 2012, saying that such a long confinement of Mr Mohet Hojai in jail because of the insurgency-related case of Dima Hasao (erstwhile North Cachar Hills),when even the leaders of different insurgent/militant organisations of North Eastern States regardless of the charges against them have been released, amounts to discrimination, injustice and apathy being meted out to the people of Dima Hasao district, stated a press release issued by Mr Rathindra Thaosen, President, ASDC Dima Hasao District Committee.
It may be noted here that Mr Mohet Hojai was arrested on the mid-night of 29th May. 2009 from his residence of Boildura, Haflong by Assam Police and brought to Basista Police Station,Guwahati in pursuance of case no. 170/90 of Basista Police Station registered on 1st April 2009 against Mr Pojendro Hojai and Mr Babul Kemprai. Later,the National Investigation Agency(N.I.A.) took up the matter of investigation of the said P.S. Case No.170/90 and re-numbered as N.I.A. Case No.01/09 on the 5th of June 2009.
In fact,whatsoever the charges charges against Mr Mohet Hojai, it is well known that Mr Mohet Hojai was just a public representative and he should not be deserved for such a long period of confinement in jail, without granting him a bail, when in view of the fact that even most of the arrested leaders/members of different insurgent/militant organisations of N.E. States have been released. Further, the ASDC District Committee reiterates that the charges against Mr Mohet Hojai, a pure civilian, and that too under the purview of the N.I.A.sounds unfair and unjustifiable when the cases of almost all the arrested leaders of different insurgent/militant organisations of N.E.States were not enforced under the legislation of the N.I.A.
The ASDC Dima Hasao District Committee therefore urge upon the Central Government and State Government of Assam to initiate necessary steps immediately so as to make the N.I.A. issue"No Objection Certificate"(N.O.C.) for the immediate release of Mr Mohet Hojai, at least on humanitarian ground, from the incarceration.
