Tiwa autonomous council EM arrested for taking bribe

An Executive Member (EM) of Tiwa Autonomous Council, Hema Kanta Deka was arrested by police on November 10 on charges of cheating and illicit collection of money from unemployed youth of various parts of Nagaon and Morigaon districts assuring them government jobs.

A police source revealed that Hema Kanta Deka, who also served as General Secretary of Morigaon District Youth Congress, has been pocketing lakhs of rupees from hundreds of unemployed youth since 1992, assuring them jobs specially teachers' ones in LP and ME schools of the aforesaid districts.

Commission visits BTAD riot points

The one man enquiry commission headed by Mutum BK Singh, retired judge of Gauhati High Court to enquire 2012 BTAD riot today visited riot starter hot spots in Kokrajhar district and interacted with local publics both from Bodo and Muslim communities in their visits.

The commission made their maiden visit to Tulsibil under Gossaigaon sub-division and later stepped to the Parowguri where two elderly women killed,Magurmari and Joypur village where four Bodo youths lynched and later it spreaded in large scale in the region. During the visit commission officials including govt advocates met eye witness and held shared about information how the incident did started which had created resented among both of community. Singh said that the commission has been investigating into incident that claimed over 100 lives in the region and after getting proper investigation the final report of the commission will be published by April next.

The commission noted all relevant inputs about situation that rosé in the BTAD area.The commission official yesterday visited at Chirang district and collected information from incident related areas. The commission was formed In December of 2012 by state govt to enquire the BTAD riot and steps about findings of the commission will be published public by April next,said Anjan Sarma, secretary of the commission.

AGP list of candidates coming up on Monday

The Asom Gana Parishad will announce the list of the candidates on Monday for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated in Assam for April 16 and 23. The party decided it as the was holding a steering committee meeting at the party headquarters on Saturday night. The meeting discussed former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta’s name as a candidate from Kaliabor constituency. Notably, the regional party will contest in altogether 6 seats while BJP will field candidates on 8 seats for the alliance. The party further has decided to field Dr Arun Sarma from Lakhimpur and Sarbananda Sonowal from Dibrugarh. Both they ae sitting MP.

Its official. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi voted for Nahid Afrin for the Indian Idol Junior Season II. In a statement issued to the media on Saturday, Gogoi said that the budding singer has been regaling the audience and viewers with her baritone voice bringing laurels to the state. He appealed to the people of the state to vote for the young singing sensation, who hails from Sonitpur district. He said votes will enable her to win the coveted singing show.
