International Women Day observed at Nazira

International Women Day observed by NGO Pragati and Pragoti Mahila Mancha at Nazira Natya Mandir on March 8. In this occation a seminer was held on "Epual Rights of Women". Manika Saikia former vice principal of Sivasagar College, Nondeshwari Buraguhain, Advocate Ajit Hazarika, Mintu Borah, Sonjiv Borah etc. were presesent. Four senior Women and two distinguished persons were felicitated in the function.

A pall of gloom descends in Nazira following the sudden death of Tipun Gogoi. Gogoi, the young businessman died on Wednesday night. He was 31 and left behind him mother and elder brother. Various local organizations and individuals condoled his death and conveyed their deep sympathies to the bereaved family members.   
The Freelance Journalist Association of Nazira felicitated Virendra Mittal on Wednesday two days after he took over as the Sivasagar deputy commissioner.  The association members along with the Pragati officials honoured him at a brief function at his office chamber in the morning. Along with other parts of the state, AASU activists in Nazira staged demonstration on Tuesday in the town in protest against Centre’s support to the Indo-Bangla land deal.AASU activists thronged the Natya Mandir premises in the morning and staged satyagraha till the afternoon opposing the land deal. Talking to Assam Times, they alleged that the Modi government at the Centre has been undermining the sentiments of the state and its people.They further called BJP a bunch of betrayers and that they won’t allow it to happen. 
A pall of gloom descended in Nazira when Jadavananda Baruah passed away on Wednesday. He was 90. The social worker and former Nazira Town Committee chairman breathed his last at his own residence in Guwahati in the morning. Baruah is survived by his son and daughter.Various organisations and individuals condoled in his demise and conveyed their deep sympathies to the bereaved family members.  
Thousands of Muslim people burnt the effigy of Dr Subramaniam Swamy in Nazira on Tuesday three days after the BJP veteran asked the immigrants to covert to Hinduism to get Indian citizenship.Organized by the Muslim Youva Parishad, the protesters thronged the Nazira town, burnt Dr Swamy’s effigy after shouting slogans condemning his controversial statements on historic Assam Accord.Later in a press conference, they said that Assam is a land of peace and harmony and that its people should condemn these communal statements.

The recovery of a leopard carcass sends no less shock among the wild life activist lovers in Sivasagar on Wednesday.The carcass of the 5 feet long full grown leopard was spotted by the local villagers on the river Dikhow at Sunpura in the morning.Acting on information, forest department officials arrived in the river bank and recovered the carcass. The reason would be ascertained only after the post mortem.
