The Assam Government will extend the retirement age of its employees by one year. That too will be effective from December 1, 2007.
This is one of the slew of measures by the Tarun Gogoi Government with a view to appeasing the employees in the run up to the panchayat election.
Talking to Assam Ttimes, official sources here say the Government decided to agree with the employees’ demand at a meeting on Thursday in Dispur. The extension of the retirement age was one of the vital demand of the state government employees.
Notably, the same government in its earlier term extended the retirement age of the employees up to 59 from 58 years.
A Cabinet sub-committee was there to look into the extension demand which ultimately approved it and the Government is getting ready to implement it., say sources.
The meeting further cleared the Chief Minister’s assurance to form the Sixth Assam Pay Commission that will be implemented along with the implementation of the new pay structures for Central Government employees, and regularization of services of casual and muster-roll workers who have been working since 1994.
