12th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) starts on February 3. The inauguration function was held at Tata theatre of Nariman Point.Governor of Maharashtra Shri K. Sankarnarayanan was the chief guest of the opening ceremony and he inaugurated d function by lightning the lamp.The function was presided over by shri C.M. Jatua hon’ble Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting govt of India. All the Jury members were facilated by a bookey of flowers. India’s veteran environment film maker Mike Pandey had been honoured with the prestigious V Shantaram Life Time Achivement Award of the MIFF 2012. The award carried a citation, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs.
The inauguration function was followed by a musical event.Mula Paadum Ravu a cultural group of Kerela played bamboo symphony.All the musical instruments used by the group are made of natural materials like bamboo or reed. Renowned tv artist Aman Barma was the anchor of the inauguration function. MIFF 2012 will showcase more than 101 documentary, short and animation films from 37 countries. 22 awards including the Golden Conch Awards for best films in International Competition, Indian Competition, best fiction,best animation films will be given away. In Indian Fiction category, films like Beauty, Aaliya, Yeh Galian, documentary in Indian section like Kab-Tak, A dream called America, Invisible Music, The man who moved the mountain will be screened in the film festival. In Indian fiction catagoey above 40 minutes, an Assamese documentary named The Devided Soul directed by Deep Bhuyan will be also screened on 8th Feb. This documentary is based on Rita Choudhury’s novel Makam. Mumbai International Film Festival will come to an end on 9th Feb.
