JNH condemns the killing of Donald Sengyung

The Jadikhe Naisho Hosom (JNH) vehemently condemned the killing of Donald Sengyung and urged upon the government to uproot the evil designs of all such miscreants and nab the culprits involved and punish according to law, stated a press release issued by the Publicity Secretary, Sri D. Bathari.

The release maintained that the law and order situation in Dima Hasao district has not yet improved to the extent of people's desire and expectation; appealed the Jadikhe Naisho Hoshom (JNH), the Dimasa Apex Body to the Government. Very recently, two gruesome incidents took place under Umrangso Police Station in which Lt. Rtd. Cornel J.S.Sidhu (55), Deputy Manager, J.P Cement and Lt. Romen Sarma (52), Dy. Manager AMDC were kidnapped and killed on 25th November 2011, which were highly condemnable. Another gruesome incident took place at Komulung village under Mahur Police Station in which one innocent student of T.D.C, Donald Sengyung(26), S/0 Late Sumonto Sengyung, whose father was a Dimasa and the mother was Kuki woman, was brutally murdered. As learnt, initially a quarrel arose between Amit Sengyung, the younger brother of Donald Sengyung and the Kuki miscreants over a trivial matter of riding a motorcycle in which inspite of seeking pardon Amit Sengyung was severely beaten. He was however rescued by some of his friends who were present at the spot. Being furious at the rescue by the friends, the Kuki miscreants again went to late Sengyung's house in the late evening on 30.12.2011 in search of Amit Sengyung but as they could not find him, took away his elder brother Donald Sengyung and one of his friend, the son of a G.B. to their camp. But whereas the son of the G.B. returned home after being beaten severely, Donald Sengyung did not return. His dead body was found after thoroughly searching out in the late night of Saturday i.e. on 31.12.2011. The dead body was brought to Haflong Police Station in the wee hour of Sunday on the 1st January 2012 for post mortem.

The Dimasa relatives and Kuki relatives of Donald Sengyung and all peace-loving people were shocked and lamented by the brutal murder of Donald. People started feeling insecure of the sons of Dimasa with a Kuki mother living in Kuki society. It seems that the incident was perpetrated with a view to creating ethnic disharmony between the Dimasa and the Kuki.

The JNH further urged upon the district administration of Dima Hasao district, State and Central government authorities to look every corner of disturbance created by anti-social elements and maintain law and order properly.
