The Assam government is set to hold the Republic Day celebration at the Khanapara Veterinary College Ground instead of Latasil playground. The decision was taken after Dispur received instruction from the Guwahati high court where the court asked the government to make its stand clear by January 9.
A single-bench court, on Tuesday asked the state government to make its stand clear on the matter. The government has already decided to shift the celebrations to Khanapara veterinary college ground. However, it's still awaiting security clearance.
A PIL filed by Pulin Das and 13 others asked for the court intervention to stop Latasil from hosting the event. The petitioners demanded shifting of Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations from Latasil to a different site and said the playground should be used only for sports.
