Local correspondent of a television channel of Lakuwa and organising secretary of the Simaluguri Press Guild Bipin Hazarika was attacked by two unidentifyed gunmen on his way home at 9.30 p.m. on September 24. According to information, while Hazarika was on his way home by his motorcycle on Lakuwa-Rajgarh road suddenly two young men came on a blue coloured motorcycle and forced him to stop. They misbehaved and try to shoot with a pistol. Fortunately at the same time an oil tanker came and the miscreants flead away by threatining him to kill within 15 days. Hazarika filled an FIR at Simaluguri police station in this regard and investigation is going on.

Preparations are afoot for holding a state level convention in Nazira on ethnic identity of the Assamese. Film actor Dinesh will open the convention organized by the Pragatishil Jatiya Nagarik Mancha of Assam at the Kaliprashad Memorial public library on October 30. The convention will discuss safeguarding the ethnic identity of the Assamese people, demand for decentralisation of powers and prevent illegal migration and the measures to strengthen the Assamese nationality. Several eminent personalities including writers, intellectuals, journalists and advocates have confirmed their participation.
The All India CISF Inter Sector Football Tournament gets underway in Nazira from Tuesday. The All Assam Students Union in Nazira staged dharna on Monday demanding immediate construction of the proposed 300 bedded Super speciality hospital in Demow. An 18 years old girl commited suicide in Nazira sending shock wave across the entire area on Sunday. Identified as Suchila Nayak, she committed suicide at Simaluguri on Saturday night. She worked as a helper at the residence of Dr.Prabin Konwar for the last couple of months. Her father Subu Nayak of Lakuw Rangagarah has lodged a complaint at the Simaluguri police station . The reason of the extreme step was not known.
