The performance of Udalguri students,which won third prize in the All Assam Inter district quiz on new and renewable energy held at Silpagram, Guwahati has been appreciated by people of the district.The state level science quiz was organized by Bharat Jana Bigyan Jatha,Assam branch in association with Assam Energy Development Agency,Guwahati at Silpagram, on August 19 2011,on the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas. Selected students from 26 districts of Assam participated in the inter-district quiz conducted by Sanjeev Goswami. Dr.SK Choudhury, Director ASTEC formally inaugurated the competition on August 19 in the Silpagram auditorium.Tarun Gogoi,Chief Minister,Assam gave away the prizes to the winning districts namely-Nagaon,Dhemaji and Udalguri for winning first three places respectively at a central function held at Cotton College auditorium on August 20.
Udalguri district was represented by Rojika Basumatary of Sacred Heart School,Udalguri and Kunal Sharma of RAME School, Udalguri.under the guidance of Jayanta Kumar Das and Pinky Dutta.

Its remarkable in the sense that Udalguri has been the worst affected new district with at least 10 bandhs every months;extortion;killing etc.Politics has destroyed the academic career of the students and youths.Fortunately a few students have shown excellence despite all the odds.Last year Udalguri students presented 115 projects in the NCSC (second in the state behind Lakhimpur)Thanks to the district administration army and police for their helping their helping hands.Former DC,Udalguri SS Meenakshi Sundaram IAS and present DC,Udalguri Thaneswar Malakar deserve loud applause

Several people have been injured while police shelled tear gas to disperse the protesters who blocked the National Highways 37 at Naduwa in Upper Assam's Dibrugarh district on Thursday. The protesters demand steps to check erosion that poses a serious threat to Rahmoria area of Dibrugarh district. The blockade, which began in the morning disrupted the traffic movement and the district administration rushed police and paramilitary forces to the spot. NEW DELHI: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is attending a meeting of Chief Ministers on Thursday to discuss the state's security scenario. To be chaired by prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the meeting will be attended by Director general pf police RN Mathur and top officials of the home department.
