ThaneswarHazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaperdied on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.
Notededucationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.
Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has urged the public sector banks to help the state develop on all front keeping in mind the social development.In his address at the Special State Level Bankers' Committee meeting on Tuesday night, Gogoi said that the nationalised banks should increase the credit-deposit ratio in the state.Gogoi pointed out that the credit-deposit ratio of the banks in Assam is much lower than the national average.He further urged the lenders to simplify the process of granting loans.
