The community campus radio centre of Gauhati University (GU) was formally launched by Sreedher Ramamurty, the director of Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia, to set a new mark in the educational field of the region.
Sreedher who has been involved with the community radio for several years across the country expressed his hope that Radio Luit, named after the mighty river Brahmaputra, would carry the message of education across the region.
“With the launching of the radio centre in the GU campus I hope the region would be benefited in a great way in the field of education,” he said adding that more such community radio centres would revolutionize the way of learning.
Meanwhile, the Gauhati University VC Omio Kumar Medhi said it would be grand opportunity for the students and the others neighbouring the varsity to showcase their talents and also avail the facility to learn lessons.
“Besides the educational related services, the radio would also air other community based programmes. So I think the people residing in the periphery areas of the university would be benefited to a great extent,” said Medhi adding that a milestone was laid with the launching of the radio.
“There are several talented people in our villages who can sing or are equipped with other features would be given opportunity to perform here,” Medhi said.
Meanwhile, the community radio centre of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU), Jnan Tarang, has been developed and from now onwards would be aired 20 hours a day with several added programmes to increase the service to its students.
“From March 1 we have prepared to air programmes 20 hours a day with several new items in the schedule to benefit the students. We have arranged such programmes that even the common people too would be benefited from it,” said KKHSOU VC Srinath Baruah.
“Besides, educational stuff other administrative or day to day life problems too would be discussed in the radio. For that the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent or the other administrative officials will be available in our discussions,” Baruah said adding that they are hopeful that it would help the people to a great extent.
The university with 220 study centres across the state is also having a web portal and an audio visual learning system with latest technology very shortly.
“Once the audio visual technology is on the place I think the students could avail the opportunity to learn with the best scholars. The web portal would too be handy for the students,” said Ankuran Dutta, an official of KKHSOU.
