Elephant census at Jeypore Reserve Forest begins


Preliminary work on elephant census has begun on February 20 at Jeypore Resurve Forest, which area is surrounded by Namsung, Buridehing and Dilli River. These area are divided into nine compartments as Dilli-Beat, Dilli-Sub Beat, Hukanjuri, Hugaripathar, Kothlguri, Hukanjuri, Jeypore, Nogaghat. This census work will be completed by February 26, inform by Forest Department of Namrup.

Several organizations joined the All Assam Students’ Union and the Namrup Tai Ahom Students’ Union today and burned the effigy of Assam CM Tarun Gogoi protesting Naga aggression at Uriam Ghat. Candidates from the 120 Naharkatia Legislative Assembly Constituency segment in favour of their candidates include Pranati Phukan (Cong-I), Pradip Buragohain (BJP), Sasa Kamal Handique (CPM), Noran Sonowal (AGP), Karthik Tanti (NCP), Tirtha Gogoi (TMC) submitted their nomination in the District election offices for the ensuring Assembly polls. A total of 1,16,872 voters will exercise their franchise in 171 polling stations in this LAC. The lone fertilizer industry of the entire Northeast, the Brahmaputra Vally Fertilizer Co-operation Ltd (BVFCL) at Namrup has been in the doldrums. So a general apathy by the government in revamping BVFCL has caused the AASU to take up agitation. Poor and inadequate ATM service has caused a lot of miseries to bank customers in Namrup. Presently there are only two ATM booths here one by SBI and the another by UCO bank. Another bank UBI does not have their own ATM despite having a sizable numbers of account holders issued ATM cards. The UCO bank ATM is the most poorly run; remaining out of order or closed most of the time. Similarly , the SBI ATM remains without cash or out of order most of the time.
