Dima Haso scam likely to rock Parliament

CPIM general secretary Prakash Karat says that his party would raise the multi crore scam in NC Hills of Assam in parliament. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, Karat said siphonning off money meant for poor people is a grave and an unpardonable crime and that the guilty persons deserve punishment. Karat along with top party leaders held a brainstorming meet to formulate strategy for the upcoming assembly polls in Assam.

There is no positive outcome in the district after scam issue and all the political leaders are busy in making an image for the upcoming election with the in the name of scam issue. The district name should be totally named as DIMA HASAO in every article as suggested...as it is officially accepted in the gazzated offices in the state.

Tension still grips Charaipung area when armed miscreants set on fire 3 more houses where a widow and pregnant woman along with her three children had a narrow escape. This string of fresh incident took place before the visit of border area development minister Gautam Roy on Thursday who appealed to the people of both sides to excercise restraint. An All Adivasi National Liberation Army of Assam was apprehended by the BSF personnel belonging to the Assam and Meghalaya Frontier in Golaghat district on Thursday. According to information, acting on a tip-off BSF personnel apprehended Joytimayi Tamang a militant of All Adivasi National Liberation Army from Borpathar area in Golaghat District in Assam yesterda. The BSF personnel seized a mobile phone, three SIM cards and Rs 600 cash from her possession.
A self styled ''major'' of NSCN(IM) was killed and five others apprehended in an encounter with security forces in Mon district of Nagaland on Monday. According to information, the encounter took place between NSCN (IM) and a joint team of Assam Rifles and Territorial Army near the Tizet post at Punjma colony. The security forces asked the militants to stop but instead the militants opened fire and joint security forces returned the fire in which a NSCN(IM) self styled major was killed. Five cadres of the NSCN(IM), which is under ceasefire, were arrested in the operation.

A police constable was injured on Thursday after he tried to commit suicide with his service revolver in Jorhat. The incident took place at Bogamukh when 32-year-old policeman, Padma Saikia, shot himself early in the morning morning while on duty. Later, a critically injured Saikia was admitted to Jorhat Medical College Hospital. The reason behind the suicide bid is yet to be ascertained.

Once again ULFA commander in chief Paresh Baruah is locked in an acrimonius war of words with Dr Hiren Gohain. In an email statement on Tuesday, Baruah asked the intellectual Dr Gohain not to further mislead the people by making misleading and wrong statement against the ULFA's military boss. Baruah said he has been fighting to safeguard the interest of the indigenous people and not be an arbiter of Assam's fate as Dr Gohain ridiculed at a recent rally in Nalbari.Baruah furher said he is not opposed to the peace talk. Amid the bitter border row between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh that is burning Charaipung, Nagaland chief minister Neiphu Rio said border row with Assam is irreversible. Talking to reporters in Doyang in Golaghat district of Assam on Monday, Rio said over the years, the Assam government has not been sincere to resolve the border row amicably. He said even Dispur has been failing to produce relevant documents in the Supreme Court to substantiate any allegations of invasion by Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland or Meghalaya.

A1975 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre Brahma is a former Union power secretary. President appointed Harishankar Brahma as the Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India with effect from the date he assumes the office. Brahma is the second person from the North East after J.M. Lyngdoh, who retired as the Chief Election Commissioner in 2004, to become the Election Commissioner.
