50th Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Udalguri: reflection of unity and discipline

The 3rd day of 50th Bodo Sahitya Sabha,Udalguri session witnessed thousands and thousands of people visiting “Bwrigooma Fwthar”,the venue of the historic session. The ancient Bwrigooma of Udalgurihas been gripped by an ecstatic frenzy. It has emotionally been charged up with the recalling of the past. The whole atmosphere has a canopy of delight on the occasion of the session and has acquired a new identity -“Bwrigooma Fwthar”.Once upon a time,Udalguri and its adjoining areas up to Kalaigaon were under the influence of the Bhutias, who extracted revenue from the people ruled by Koch kings of Darrang. Finally the Koch king asked for the intervention of the Ahom kings, who annexed the Bhutia territory of Khalingduar up to the east of the Dhansiri river.

The entrance through which the Bhutias entered for trade to Assam were known as Duars (Doors)It is known that there were seven such Duars. The prominent among the Duars are -Khalingduar,Chariduar,Bwrigoomaduar,Kuriaparaduar,Naa-matiduar.The entrance of Udalguri and its adjoining areas from Bhutan was Bwrigoomaduar. It is after 27 years of its glorious past that this Bwrigooma,Udalguri is hosting the 50 th session of Bodo Sahitya Sabha. With the help and intense service of different communities, the session is going usher in a new history is trying to tie all all the communities in one knot. For this reason Udalguri looks vibrant.A huge festive lookhas caste its spell over the whole Udalguri,a process of fostering goodwill and unity.

Hundreds of young boys and girls clad in traditional Bodo costume have taken over the charge of maintaining discipline.Unlike other programmes, you woun't need police help.Police are in standby mood only. The well behaved volunteer boys and girls are ready to help and guide anybody. The session has taught other organizations of Assam a good lesson of maintaining discipline and command.Smoking in public, chewing of beetle nuts or paan, drinking alcohol etc are vanished for these days.Selling and drinking alcohol is totally banned. Thanks to the oganising committee.

Assamese younger generation has gone back 25 years as a result of the Assam Movement;AASU's movements,ULFA's independent Assam slogan etc.The long 25 years struggle taught us to be millionaire overnight,90 percent Assamese boys and girls do not respect seniors and are busy in entertainment and amusements. They never follow command. At present Assamese society is the most indiscipline in India. But the Bodos have been developing very fast, as they follow leadership, they are most disciplined and are united .
