Noted Gandhian Sarat Deka passes away

Noted Gandhian worker and lifelong follower of Vinoba Bhabe,Sarat Chandra Deka breathed his last at his residence at Kalaigaon on September 19 at 7 pm.He was 85 years old at the time of his demise.Sarat Ch Deka (born in December in 1930) had been an inborn dedicated follower of Mahatma Gandhi and Sarvodaya founder Vinoba Bhabe.He personally accompanied Vinoba Bhabe during Bhoodan/Gramdan and Sarvodaya movement in Assam during 1962. Distinguished freedom fighter of Assam late Pani Ram Das introduced Sarat Ch Deka to great people Gandhians of Assam namely- late Bimala Prasad Chaliha,late Amal Prabha Das,Sakuntala Choudhuri etc.He had been working as the Coordinator of Sarvodaya in then Darrang district.He also attended all India Sarvodaya Sanmilan at Kurukhetra from Assam in 1973. He was one of the founder of Sri Sri Bhagawat Mandir at Kalaigaon and had been working as the Hony caretaker of the mandir till his demise. Sadhana Hojai,Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri expressed deep condolence at the death of the Gandhian worker. Anupam Choudhuri,ADC,Udalguri; DN Hazarika, Circle Officer, Kalaigaon RC;Jayanta Das,president, Udalguri District Journalists' Union; social workers -Kami Ram Saharia and Mahendra Saikia etc offered floral tribute to the departed Gandhian worker at the cremation ground at Kalaigaon. He left behind his wife Kanaklata Deka and five daughters.
