Barpetians also observed ‘Bhogali Bihu’ or ‘Magh Bihu’ with satriya tradition and gaiety in spite of the excessive price hike along with the entire state. The Barpetians belived that along with the lighting of the ‘Meji’ all the evils would be removed from the society. At Barpeta satra this ‘Bhogali Bihu’ is started from the ‘Sangkranti’ (last day of Assamese ‘puh mah’) to the 4th of ‘Magh Mah’. During these five days along with the regular ‘Prasangas’ other traditions were also held. At Barpeta satra the 1st day of ‘Magh’ is called the ‘Bar Domahi’ (in colloquial language it is called ‘maghar domhi’). On that very day ‘meji’ was lightened at ‘Tupar Chotal’ in the satra campus. The people of Barpeta assembled at the Barpeta Satra Campus on that day and bow down there head in from of ‘Guru Aasan’ and prayed for the wellbeing of the people. The people of Barpeta take ‘Tilak’ with the ashes of ‘meji’ on that day. The gayan- Bayans also performed after the regular prasangas.Along with these other rituals were also held in the Barpeta campus. Earlier, the people of barpeta took bath in the river before the lightening of the ‘meji’. In this way the people of Barpeta observed this Bhogali Bihu with satriya tradition exceptionally. It is called exception, because, while the entire state observed Bhogali Bihu on the same day in the last day of ‘Puh Mah’, Barpetians observed it one day later that is on the 1st day of ‘Magh Mah’. And ‘ Uruka’ is held at Barpeta on the lats day of ‘Puh Mah’ .
Along with the rest of the country in Assam at Barpeta district also the 64th Independence Day was observed with tight security with various programmes. The National Flag, on the occasion of this remarkable day was unfurled by the agriculture minister of Assam Nilmoni Sen Deka.
