Road Accident in Barpeta

Twenty one injured in a road accident at Sonkuchi Colony of Barpeta town today at about 7.40 am. According to report, a Dhuburi-bound highspeeded Bolero pickup FB (No-AS-15 C 0699) vehicle lost it's control and 21 labours of that vehicle were injured. To rescue the injured the 108 health service and police were informed by the gathered people. However, help reached an hour late. At this, the gathered people were enraged and blocked the road for some moment. They rescued the injured people and sent to the Barpeta civil hospital for treament. After sometime, a police reached the spot. Having seen the police, the enraged people damaged the the vehicleand two police personnel namely ASP Pralhad Das and Habildar Tiken Medhi were injured. Two seriously injured Rabiul Islam and Rafiqul Islam of Garemari Pathar village of Barpeta district were sent to Gauhati Medical College for treatment. Mentionable that these labours were going from Brapeta to Dhuburi for the construction of Mobile phone towers.

50 taken ill for vaccination

Truck with smuggled timber seized

The timber smuggling business of Barpeta is not a new matter. Rampant timber smuggling is going on. Woods have been illegally transported during the early morning. But the forest department and the police of Barpeta turned deaf ear on this matter. In the wee hours of September 18 an over-loaded truck (No. AS-01-BC-5676) containing illegal timbers, which is about to cross the Dakshin Hati-Rayatpara connecting bridge (R. P. Road), met an accident. The people of that area had seized the truck and handed over to police. This truck was coming from Meghalaya for one timber smuggler Rahman of Mandia.
