The government is in a process to hold talk with the banned United Liberation Front of Assam. Sources have suggested that all the jailed ULFA top guns would move bail petitions in a phased manner after Durga Puja.
According to information, ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa, foreign secretary Sasha Choudhury, finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika, cultural secretary Pranati Deka and political ideologue Bhimkanta Buragohain, would be moved after October 15 to pave the way for the formal talks. The government will hardly oppose the bail plea which will enable them to procure bail easily.
Notably, the bail petition of Ulfa deputy military chief Raju Barua has been already moved in the court.
Two others — Ulfa vice-chairman Pradip Gogoi and publicity chief Mithinga Daimary — are out on bail and drumming up public support for the talks.
The development is significant a few days after
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi disclosed that peace talks with the Ulfa would commence within next two months.
