16 Child Scientists of Kamrup (Metro) Selected For NCSC 2010

Eight groups, each consisting 16 numbers of Child Scientists of Kamrup (Metro) district selected for the state level National Children’s Science Congress, 2010 to be held at Silchar on October 27-30. The name of the Child Scientists are : 1. Barnadhya Hazarika & Anuranan Kr. Kazi of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, 2. Abhinav Sankar Goswami & Madhurya P. Barman of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, 3. Pranat Kashyap & Trinayan Das of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, 4. Mrinal Kumar & Prachurya Mahanta of Axom Jatiya Bidyalaya, 5. Suryakamal Sarma & Manabendra Das of Axom Jatiya Bidyalaya, 6. Papari Choudhury & Himashmita Kakati of North Guwahati Girls High School, 7. Nupur Choudhury & Siddharth Roy of KK Memorial English High School and 8. Dhanmani Deka & Kaushik Talukdar of New Guwahati Adarsha Vidyalaya, They have completed science projects related to scientific use of land. The titles of the projects are: Scientific use of land: A case study of Athgaon Kabarsthan, Improvisation of a barren piece of land through detection of minerals deficient in it, Community knowledge of land use in folklore, Decaying Power of various soils. Effects of components on temperature of soil. Use of soil for making statues. Deepar Beel and its water quality and Comparison of land-use & standard of life of Sivanagar and Bhaskarnagar respectively.

The Assam government has urged the Centre to support the cold-chain development project in Assam for the benefit of farmers and consumers. Union Tourism Secretary Pervez Dewan has asked the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to remove a line in the class 10 geography textbooks that tells that tourism has not been encouraged in the north-east and interior parts of the Himalayas for “strategic reasons”.
