16 Child Scientists of Kamrup (Metro) Selected For NCSC 2010
Eight groups, each consisting 16 numbers of Child Scientists of Kamrup (Metro) district selected for the state level National Children’s Science Congress, 2010 to be held at Silchar on October 27-30. The name of the Child Scientists are : 1. Barnadhya Hazarika & Anuranan Kr. Kazi of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, 2. Abhinav Sankar Goswami & Madhurya P. Barman of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, 3. Pranat Kashyap & Trinayan Das of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, 4. Mrinal Kumar & Prachurya Mahanta of Axom Jatiya Bidyalaya, 5. Suryakamal Sarma & Manabendra Das of Axom Jatiya Bidyalaya, 6. Papari Choudhury & Himashmita Kakati of North Guwahati Girls High School, 7. Nupur Choudhury & Siddharth Roy of KK Memorial English High School and 8. Dhanmani Deka & Kaushik Talukdar of New Guwahati Adarsha Vidyalaya, They have completed science projects related to scientific use of land. The titles of the projects are: Scientific use of land: A case study of Athgaon Kabarsthan, Improvisation of a barren piece of land through detection of minerals deficient in it, Community knowledge of land use in folklore, Decaying Power of various soils. Effects of components on temperature of soil. Use of soil for making statues. Deepar Beel and its water quality and Comparison of land-use & standard of life of Sivanagar and Bhaskarnagar respectively.

Bina Hazarika, noted writer and social activist , passed away at Marwari Maternity Hospital, Guwahati on November 5, 2015. Born in Goalpara in 1932, she was married to Late Tara Prasad Hazarika, noted freedom fighter. She leaves behind her sons, daughter-in-laws, grandsons, granddaughters and a host of relatives and admirers. Her cremation at the Bhootnath crematorium was attended by a large number of mourners.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has stressed best possible measures to ensure soil conservation.Gogoi told the soil conservation department officials when he reviewed the status of projects with officials at a meeting in Dispur on Saturday. Altogether 21,660 farmers and 11,477.362 hectares of farmland have been covered under the Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) in 27 districts of the Assam for the Kharif 2014 season, that is – agricultural crops and horticultural crops like sali paddy, jute, black gram, green gram, ginger, turmeric, lady’s finger etc., grown between June and September, 2014.The total premium amount collected under the scheme for the season so far stands at Rs 46,81,77, 830. 1st Assam International Agri-Horti Show 2014 will begin from Wednesday at Guwahati. Participants include the America, Italy, China, Myanmar, South Africa, the UK, Laos and Israel. "This is the largest conference cum exhibition in the agriculture and horticulture sector in the North East. It will showcase the strength of Assam in cultivation of different varieties of crops," said Agriculture Minister Nilamani Sen Deka. More than 5,000 farmers from different parts of the state to participate in the event.
