The pilot project of NRC has started from at Barpeta revenue circle
The update of the pilot project for the National Register of Citizens, 1951 has started from June 7 at Barpeta revenue circle in Barpeta district, according to official sources. Mentionable that, in the year 2009, April 22, the tri-partite discussion of Central government, State government and AASU was held regarding the NRC updates and in that discussion it was assured that the government had surely started the NRC updates in two revenue circles namely , The Chaygaon revenue circle in Kamrup district and BArpeta revenue circle in Barpeta district of Assam. According to the provisions of sub-rule (3) of rule 4A of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003, the Register General of Citizens Registration hereby notifies [File no-9/5/2009-CRD(MNIC)] that the enumeration in respect of the said two revenue circles of Barpeta and Chaygaon shall take place from the first day June, 2010 to 31st day of December, 2010. The official sources of Barpeta deputy commissioner's office informed that though the execution of the NRC updates notification had started from June 1/10, it is a matter of great regrett that Barpeta district administration has received the notification on June 3/10. And after getting the notification Barpeta district administration has conferred the charge of this act to Pradip Kr. Bhagawati, ADC, Barpeta as an observer. The NRC forms will be available at local gaon panchayats, municipality offices within a very short period.

Two dacoits were killed in an encounter at Jalakura bridge at Keotkuchi, about 4 km from Barpeta yesterday night. According report, a group police personnel headed by the ASP, DSP and TSI of Barpeta got information about the dacoits and they are awaiting for them at that place. As soon as they arrived the police try to catch them, but the encounter took place between the police and the dacoits. As a result two dacoits were killed and other fled away. The DSP of Barpeta Sushanta Biswa Sarma with the police personnel of Barpeta and Kalgachiya i/c recovered fake notes worth Rs.11500 of 500 denominations from a one Alam Ali of Madrasapara of Kokila outpost in Barpeta district yesterday. The money was recovered at Barvitha near Kalgachiya. According to report, the business of fake currency was on going during last few days in the entire district.
