The pilot project of NRC has started from at Barpeta revenue circle
The update of the pilot project for the National Register of Citizens, 1951 has started from June 7 at Barpeta revenue circle in Barpeta district, according to official sources. Mentionable that, in the year 2009, April 22, the tri-partite discussion of Central government, State government and AASU was held regarding the NRC updates and in that discussion it was assured that the government had surely started the NRC updates in two revenue circles namely , The Chaygaon revenue circle in Kamrup district and BArpeta revenue circle in Barpeta district of Assam. According to the provisions of sub-rule (3) of rule 4A of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003, the Register General of Citizens Registration hereby notifies [File no-9/5/2009-CRD(MNIC)] that the enumeration in respect of the said two revenue circles of Barpeta and Chaygaon shall take place from the first day June, 2010 to 31st day of December, 2010. The official sources of Barpeta deputy commissioner's office informed that though the execution of the NRC updates notification had started from June 1/10, it is a matter of great regrett that Barpeta district administration has received the notification on June 3/10. And after getting the notification Barpeta district administration has conferred the charge of this act to Pradip Kr. Bhagawati, ADC, Barpeta as an observer. The NRC forms will be available at local gaon panchayats, municipality offices within a very short period.

Barpeta district CPI(ML) today observed jail-bhoro programme protesting against the skyrocketing price hike and the continuous corruption in implementing the various NREGA schemes of the entire district. The district unit took out a procession with slogan against the governments towards the deputy commissioner's office and in front of Deputy commissioner's office they staged demonstration. The urged the government for controlling the skyrocketing price hike which has made the lives of the general people measurable. The sudden price hike of the essential commodities has made the life of the general people miserable. The state government has completely failed to control the price hike. Barpeta district AGP has taken out a protest march on September 14 and later on staged demonstration at the DC office premises. The death anniversary of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva was observed at Barpeta Satra (Assamese monastery) by conducting a traditional Kirtan Mahotsava. Barpeta district Anganbadi workers/ helpers Association staged a 4-hour demonstration at DC office premises on September 1 protesting to fulfill their various demands. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, it was stated that they have been urging the govt to fulfill their demands, but all are futile. In their demands payment of the enhanced rate on central govt salary to the workers; 80% reservation in the vacant post of the chief service women, upgradation of the helpers in the vacant post of Anganwadi workers, stop the work of ICDS to the NGOs.
