Ultras killed

Two militants of anti-talk faction group of Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) were killed in an encounter with the police in Karbi Anglong district, Assam on May 19, officials said. Several arms-ammunitions were seized from the slain militants.


Karbi Anglong SP K K Sarma said, a three members group of anti-talk faction KLNLF were taking shelter in dense forest area at Dongkeklangsoo under Bakuliaghat Police Station in the hilly district. The encounter took place when police personnel in search operation were attacked by the militants. The police retaliated killing two of the militants. Killed militants identified as Chandra Teron alias Bengbong, who sergeant of the group and another Ananda Takbi.


An AK-47 rifle, a SLR, huge quantity of ammunitions and several documents were seized from the slain militants, police added.


412 cadres of KLNLF were laid sown arms at Diphu, district headquarter of the district on February 11 in this year. But the 25-member group of militants had stayed away when their colleagues laid down arms. The group, led by Amitabh Hanse alias Sarthe Hanse, has imposed “taxes” on goods trucks and business institutions and government employees serving in the interior border areas of Nagaon and Karbi Anglong district, police added.

4 people killed in landslide in Meghalaya

At least four people including three women were killed and two others injured in landslide following heavy rainfall in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.The incident took place at Ratacherra village along the NH-44 connecting to Barak Valley in Assam and Tripura, Mizoram on Saturday, when a tea shop was buried in a landslide following heavy rainfall in the region.The deceased persons were identified as 61-year-old Everyone Naijar, D Pohshna owner of the tea shop, P Pohshna, D Amse.The injured persons Ramtripal Gupta and S Lyngdoh were rescued by BSF personnel and rushed to nearby hospital.

Two MTFA ultra held in Kokrajhar

Security forces on Saturday had apprehended two militants belonging to Muslim Tiger Force of Assam (MTFA) in Assam's Kokrajhar district, officials said.Defence spokesman based in Guwahati said that, based on intelligence input, army and police had jointly launched operation at Chokhilepara area in the BTAD district and nabbed the militant duo.The nabbed militants were identified as Nur Islam and Md. Asarful Islam and recovered two 7.62mm pistols, 17 rounds live ammunition of AK-47, a MTFA identity card and other war like stores in possession from them.

IAF jawan commits suicide

A jawan was committed suicide himself at Air force station in Digaru of Kamrup (Metro) district in Assam on Thursday, officials said.Kundan Singh, a TPL jawan , engaged in the security duty at the air force station had committed suicide himself with his service pistol on Thursday morning.The jawan hailed from Jharkhand and his body was sent for postmortem to hospital.

Couple killed in lightning

A newly-wed couple was killed in a lightning strike and a body found in Nagaon districton May 16, officials said. Nagaon SP Nitul Gogoi said, the couple died Sunday when lightning struck their home in village Bokulguri under Kampur PS in Nagaon district. The couple was identified as Chaibur Rahman (26) and Chanara Begum (20).
