Jairam Ramesh, the union minister of state for forest & environment inaugurated Nagaon Bamboo Museum that was constructed under National Bamboo Mission today. After the inauguration of the museum, he inspected and enquired about the bamboo products, which were installed at the museum for the visitors. Ramesh praised about the products and the museum building which is at the bank of river Kolong. After the inauguration, Ramesh attended the public meeting arranged in connection with the inaugural programme. Assam Forest minister Rockybul Hussain felicitated him with Asomiya Phulam Gamusa and a Japi. Bharat Bhuyan, the president of Nagaon District Congress also welcomed him and offers a Phulam Gamusa. On his speech he appreciated Rockybul Hussain for his effort to set up the museum.

Last year Rockybul Hussain visited China, where he observed the bamboo based industry and planned to make bamboo-based industry popular in Assam too. So after returning from China he declared to set up two-bamboo museum, one in Nagaon and the other in Guwahati.

Jairam Ramesh further talked about environmental protection. He sanctioned Rs 30 crores to Nagaon for cleaning the river Kolong. He appealed the people of Nagaon to help the implementing agency during the project and requested all to keep the environment clean. He said “ It is our own duty to keep the environment clean and therefore we should not make our river water dirty.” The condition of National Highway between Nagaon to Guwahati is so horrible which the union minister himself felt while coming from Guwahati to Nagaon. He will investigate the reason behind slow progress of the 4 way lane National Highway. After meeting, Ramesh moved to Bajiagaon to visit the new Herbal Park. From Bajiagaon, the union minister will move to Kaziranga and Majuli.
