Assam Sahitya Sabha, UK 's forthcoming program, Birth Anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, is making a mixed response. The schedule for the program is on October 9, which will before the actual date of Birth Anniversary of our Guru. Usually UK NRI-Assamese are normally celebrate the Birth Anniversary of our Guru's as per their convenient time (next week end which is fall after the date of actual Anniversary). That also followed in all over the world by Assamese community. This time, Assam Sahitya Sabha UK's program schedule is before the actual date and it is offended lots of Assamese NRI's. They feel hurt due to it.
The Kohima police seized two vehicles at interstate check gate at Khuzama on Wednesday. According to police, during routine frisking and checking of vehicles, they intercepted two bolero’s bearing No. AS-01BB-2587 and MN-01X-1859 on suspicion. In the process of checking, the Engine and Chassis no. of the Bolero B/R MN-01X-1859 were found to be tampered.
The driver of the AS-01BB-2587 Bolero failed to produce valid vehicledocuments. Identified as Anil Kumar Gupta from Bihar and Khrishna Sah from the same state were taken into police custody. A regular case No. 0042/2015 U/S 379 IPC has been registered against them for conducting further investigation.
A most popular figure of Udalguri,Ramendra Sutradhar is no more. His tragic end came in the morning of 27th May, Sunday. While he was performing morning walk a speedy bike hit him hard and he was lost. Born on April 13,1951,he did his primary schooling at Udalguri near Angragaon.He passed his matriculation from Barpeta H.S School and B.Sc from Darrang College. He was associated with several Social and cultural organisations including Asom Sahitya Sabha Udalguri Unit, Udalguri Bihu committee, Bishnu Rava Kristi Sangha, Sankardev Shishu Niketon etc. Due to early death of his father Shashi Sutradhar he had to look after their family business. Ramen Sutradhar was very popular in his friend circle and almost in Udalguri due to his amicable behaviour. He leaves behind his wife, One son and two daughters. It was a great shock for all of us. Though he is no more, his good deeds and responsibility shown towards all respect of life and society will be always remembered. Today on the day of his “Adyshradha” we pray God to grant eternal peace to his departed soul.
The Assam government is clearing the decks for updating NRC from December. Disclosing this at a press conference in Dispur, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the central funds for NRC works would be available.
Notably, a Supreme Court instruction has forced the Centre to clear the fund for an updated set of NRC while Dispur is in a process to resume the work. The pilot project state four years back. But only to be stopped because of an incident of firing in Barpeta district.
AASU, AJYCP have been pressuring the Centre and the state government to update the NRC to help the state detect and deport the Bangladeshi immigrants.
