The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Oil India Limited produced 13.73 MMT Crude Oil in Assam Sector during the Last 3 Years. The oil giants have spent about Rs 6.60 Crore in the state on social work. This was states by minister of state for petroleum & natural gas Jitin Prasada in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. In a written reply, he informed the House that crude oil production by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Oil India Ltd. in Assam sector during the last three years was 13.73 MMT. He also said that ONGC and OIL have taken a slew of measures to protect environment in Assam. These include health, safety and environment protection as one of the top priority in these operations, regular monitoring of water and air in oil field areas, immediate remedial measures are taken for arresting pollution problem out of their operations, bio-medial wastes (BMW) are disposed as per BMW rules. Moreover, effluent treatment plants and mobile effluent treatment plants are in regular operations to cater to the need of effluent treatment before its disposal, collected waste water is treated, recycled and reused during drilling operations. Besides, solvent extraction method, to recover the oil from oily sludge, before its disposal is being practiced. Prasada further informed the House that the amount spent for social work during the last three years by ONGC and OIL was Rs. 659.84 crore.
