5 killed in mishap at Raha : burnt into ashes
5 persons were killed in a tragic road accident when the Indigo car they were travelling hit with a concreate wall by the NH -37 , at Phulaguri under Raha Police station. The car immediately burnt into ashes soon it hit the concreate wall. The lifeless bodies are still not identified as they turned into ashes. According to Police, the mishap took place at around 1 am today and the car was on the way to Nagaon from Guwahati.
The deceased identified as Pranjal Phukan, asst. General Manager Kalidian tea estate, his wife Dr. Rubi Borthakur who was a lecturer of Digboi women's college and their two daughters Nishita and Rwiti. They all belong to one family where as the fifth occupant of the vehicle was identified as Pradip, their domestic help. The registration number of the vehicle that went up in flames was AS-01-AK-3980.

The delay in the construction of two bridges at Raha under four-lane express highway project remains a cause for serious concern. The construction of the bridges is, being done by Madhucon, moving at a snail’s pace, putting a large number of vehicle users to hardship. A major part of the highway is also kept blocked with gravel, sand,chips and soil resulting in fatal accidents becoming commonplace on the stretch and traffic snarls becoming routine. A three year old baby elephant was brutally killed by a group of senseless mob near Jagiroad in Morigaon district on October 26 . According to the eyewitness,the calf with severe injury missed the herd and was loitering alone with a painful body in the swampy area of a village. Traffic movement in the Raha town bazzar area has become extremely difficult due to deplorable road condition for the last 2 years. About 500 dwellers of Raha bazzar area are suffering badly as the Public Works Department (PWD) is not taking any measure to repair the damaged road. In view of growing criminal activities, the Chapormukh Police Outpost was set up to curb the same many years ago.Unfortunately, manpower crisis,lack of vehicles, poor infrustucture are the three major problems being faced by the Outpost since its establishment.
