Separatists' bandh call paralyzes life in Nagaon

The down-to-dusk Assam bandh called by the banned United Liberation
Front of Asom (ULFA) passed of peacefully in Nagaon district. The
bandh was called in protest against the arrest of two of its top
leaders, Sasha Choudhury and Chitraban Hajarika.


The 12 - hour bandh paralysed the normal life in and around Nagaon.
Shops and business establishments,educational and financial
institutions and govt. and central government offices including post
offices and the BSNL offices remained closed. Except few private
vehicles and rickshaws, vehicular traffic remained off the road. No
untoward incident was reported from any part of the district.

It shows that how the Bandh-culture had been developing at-par with West Bengal prefixed or suffixed by either Sunday or Govt. holidays, where nobody minds the Bandh as long as it has resulted into paid holiday !!!

An angry mob overturned an I-20 ( AS 01 MB-0670 ) vehicle and set it ablaze following an accident at Dighaliati under Raha Police Station at around 9.45 am on Friday. The Raha unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Tuesday took out a protest rally demanding immediate steps by the Government to protect the indigeneous textile industry of the state. The rally visited several major parts of the town shouting slogans against the state government. In a statement the AASU said that the people of Sualkuchi have been demanding steps by the Government to protect the indigeneous textile industry for a long time, but so far they ahave received nothing but assurances from the state Government. The AASU unit further said that selling of Benarasi silk as Sualkuchi silk is banned only in Kamrup district, but the ban should be imposed all over the state.
More than 500 inhabitants of more than six villages on Saturday  at about 10.30 a.m. staged a strong protest- in-dharna at Thekeraguri near Thekeraguri Railway crossing demanding NF railway authority to keep opening the railway crossing line for the smooth communication for commuters and  pedestrians of their villages. The assistant manager of the Amsoi Tea estate Pankajesh Garaip was arrested on Wednesdayat around 11.45 a.m by police for allegedly beating up a guard of the Tea garden named Durgeswar Tanti on Tuseday night.
