Rallyists deplore ultra brutality, Govt inaction in Bhimajuli
A group of journalists, joined by eminent citizens, artists and social activists on Thursday registered their protest against terrorist brutality in Bhimajuli on October 4 and government inaction preceding the fateful night.
They took out a rally on the thoroughfares of Guwahati city shouting slogans like “We condemn government inaction,” “Hang the terrorists” and “Stop massacre of children.” The protesters came onto the streets in response to an appeal by 12 journalists who included chairman of Assam Tribune group Tulsi Govinda Baruah, veteran journalists Dhirendra Nath Bezboruah, Dhirendra Nath Chakravorty and littérateur Nirupama Borgohain.
Before the rally, which began from and ended at the Guwahati Press Club, the protesters assembled on the Club campus for a brief meeting addressed by Tulsi Govinda Baruah, Dhirendra Nath Chakravorty and Rupam Baruah. “Enough is enough, be it in Bhimajuli or any other place”, the Tribune group chairman said and added, “collective protests against terrorism are long overdue.”
Mr Chakravorty said the terrorists, who pretend to be the majority voice, constitute a microscopic minority of the community or nationality they claim they represent. He deplored the Assam government, especially Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for what he called their being unequal to the task of containing the carnage in Bhimajuli.
Rupam Baruah explained the purpose of the protest action.

Guwahati: Most of the city based scribes need thorough eye check-ups as they constantly use digital screen for hours in a day. In a day long eye screening camp, organized EYE DOCTORS, a city based eye institute and surgery centre, at Guwahati Press Club on 7 July 2018 it was observed that half of the participants were in need of thorough check-up and necessary treatments.
