Durga Puja in Pune

Pune witnessed the Akalbodhan (untimely awakening of Durga), Xarodiya Puja, known by various names this year with lots of fragrance, love and joy. Known mostly as Durga Puja, is celebrated from the sixth to tenth day of the waxing moon in the month of Ashwin, Occasionally however, due to shifts in the lunar cycle relative to the solar months, it may also be held in the following month, Kartika. According to the Gregorian calendar, these dates correspond to the months of September and October. It is an annual festival amongst Hindus, widely celebrated in West Bengal, Assam , Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Tripura.

Durga Puja can be witnessed in few places of Maharashtra, Delhi and other parts celebrated by the Bengali and Assamese groups.

In Pune, Durga Puja was celebrated at various places with traditional worship and delight. Places like B.T Kawade Road, Koregaon Park, Shivaji Nagar, Khadki and Viman Nagar witnessed the puja. Thousands of devotees were seen visiting the Puja Pandals.

Amantaran, a newly formed group organized the Durga Puja at B.T Kawade Road. The Puja was organized for the first time by the committee, and was well organized with the mixture of traditional ways of Puja along with musical night and other games.

After festivals like Durga Puja, it seems the demon rises as the goddess is thrown into the water. So, soon after pujas, the demon strikes and there is victory of evil.
