Army arrested two arms dealer

Two suspected arms dealers namely - Asgar Ali (40) of Kanmuji village (Rajapukhuri) and Hasan Ali (30) of Rajapukhuri village, 5 KM from Kalaigaon town in Darrang district had been arrested on the morning of September 5 at Rajapukhuri village by an army contingent led by Capt. Shamsher Kelsikor Kiran of 65 Field Regiment, Kalaigaon. According to Capt. Shamsher ,both the accused have confessed their involvement in the recent communal violence in Udalguri and Darrang districts. Their interrogation had revealed Muslim fundamentalists nexus with a few migrants organizations. It was also known that both of the accused had been supplying arms to people of the riot hit areas of Darrang and Udalguri. Army handed over both the accused to Mangaldai police for further interrogation.

Baby wild tusker succums to injury in Udalguri

A badly injured six years old wild tusker has succumbed to death yesterday evening on May 23 after battling for life since May 18 at Ganeshghat village in Udalguri district.The injured wild tusker had been very weak while entering the remote village near Majuli tea garden with other two wild elephants on May 18.Villagers could see several injury marks on its body and blood was seen oozing out from a deep injury on its fore head.Unable to cross a small stream, the tusker fell to the bottom of the streamlet. Udalguri players won gold for India

People of Udalguri have much to rejoice with the good news of winning 4 gold and 1 silver by 3 girls and two boys from Udalguri representaing India in the first ever international event of Wushu held in Colombo in Sri Lanka from April 16 to April 18.
