Chittaranhjan Choudhury of Barpeta no more

Noted litteratuer, writer, ex-president of Barpeta Xahitya Xabha Chittaranjan Choudhury (70), retired head of the Dept of Assamese, Kokrajhar College was passed away today. He was suffering ffrom various illness in the last few months. He wrote many books like- 'Dr. Baniknata Kakati, Jiban aaru pratibha', 'Bishnu prasad Rabhar Abha', 'Borgeetar arshanik Tatta', 'Sri Sri Raqmchran Thakurar Jiban aaru Karma', 'Borgeet Aaru Bhakti Tatta', ' Mahapurush sankardev Birasit Gunamala' Kartal Kamal' and prose of sanskrit 'Totoy'etc. He left behind his wife and three sons.

The timber smuggling business of Barpeta is not a new matter. Rampant timber smuggling is going on. Woods have been illegally transported during the early morning. But the forest department and the police of Barpeta turned deaf ear on this matter. In the wee hours of September 18 an over-loaded truck (No. AS-01-BC-5676) containing illegal timbers, which is about to cross the Dakshin Hati-Rayatpara connecting bridge (R. P. Road), met an accident. The people of that area had seized the truck and handed over to police. This truck was coming from Meghalaya for one timber smuggler Rahman of Mandia.
