Eminent actor, freedom fighter, ex president, Barpeta District Sahitya Sabha, Social worker vs Education officer Radhakanta Talukdar breathed his last in his residence at Dakshin Hati on yesterday at about 8.20. During last few days he had been ill due to the old age. The people of Barpeta mourned for this renowned drama actor, freedom fighter and education officer of Barpeta. Radhakanta Talukdar was born in the month of December in 1923 in Dakshin hati, Barpeta. He passed his matriculation examination from Barpeta Vidyapith H. S. School in 1944 and passed B.A. degree from Cotton college in 1950. During his students career he had to go to jail in the 1942’s freedom movement. He started his service life in the year in 1951 as the asstt. teacher of Chenga High School and later on joined in Barpeta govt. H.S. School as an asstt teacher. In later periods he remained as the Inspector of the schools and from this same post he got retirement from the service.
During his childhood he was interested in drama acting and had started his acting in the “ Jatras-Abhinay” of Barpeta Satra. He was not only an actor but also he wrote a number of dramas like-- “ Satyameba Jayate”, “ Berar Aarar Balishal”, “Daitya Ratnakar”, “ 1942 Chanar Andolanar Barpetat Edin” etc. His another book was “ Sonali Sowaran”. He was also a silpi( artist)pensioner, who remained the president of Barpeta Sahitya Sabha from 9th jan,1988 to 10th jan,1989 and president of the well known cultural organization of Barpeta “ Sankardev Kalakshetra” for 20 years continuously. He formed that organization with his utmost skill. He was also the president of Freedom Fighter Sanmilan, Barpeta, Ex president Milan Mandir Natya samaj, ex President Asom Natya Sanmilan, Barpeta district committee, Barpeta unit, ex President Barpeta district pensioner Santha,ex President R. T. Model English school, president Asom Keshari Jatiya Vidyalaya and with so many schools and organizations he was closely related. His eternal body was brought to these various organizations to offer him last tribute. He was creamated at Nakhanda para creamation ground today at 10 am. He left his wife, three sons and two daughters. His sad demise is a great loss for the people of Barpeta. The Barpetians had lost one of the guardians.
