Plantation of 800 fruit saplings by parents in JNV Darrang

On the occasion of the Parents Day on July 12 ,more than two hundred parents and guardians of JNV (Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya ), Darrang assembled at the school premises from the very morning with an unusual gift in hands. The gifts were nothing but four saplings of local fruit or valuable trees to be planted at the school premises. According to Madhab Sarmah, Principal, JNV, Darrang (Kalaigaon), the plantation programme had been taken up in a meeting of the parents and guardians of the school held on June 14. He said that the motto was to attract younger generation people to the field of conservation of flora and faunas of Assam and to provide a green cover to the degrading surface of the earth. According to the principal. more than 600 tree saplings had been planted at the school campus on July 12 till evening.


At another simple ceremony held in the school same day in the morning, nearly forty citizens of Udmari village planted more than 250 tree saplings, which they had brought themselves. Social worker Krishna Baro, of Udmari village in his introductory speech welcomed all the parents and teachers to the ceremony. Madhab Sarma, principal, JNV and social worker Jona Ram Tamuli inaugurated the ceremony by planting two local trees to be followed by all. Later, principal Sarma thanked all the senior citizens, parents, guardians and of course students and teachers for planting so many tree saplings, which he said , would inspire others as one more step towards restoring ecology of the earth.

A badly injured six years old wild tusker has succumbed to death yesterday evening on May 23 after battling for life since May 18 at Ganeshghat village in Udalguri district.The injured wild tusker had been very weak while entering the remote village near Majuli tea garden with other two wild elephants on May 18.Villagers could see several injury marks on its body and blood was seen oozing out from a deep injury on its fore head.Unable to cross a small stream, the tusker fell to the bottom of the streamlet.
