Bijnan Jeuti in new form

Noted Scientist, Science Writer, Former V C , Dibrugarh University Dr. Kulendu Pathak formally released the 1st issue of 44th Volume of 'Bijnan Jeuti' in function held at Axam Jatiya Vidyalaya, Noonmati, Guwahati on 5th June, 2009 on the occasion of World Environment Day. Ranjit Narayan Deka, Rector of Axam Jatiya Vidyalaya and Mowsam Hazarika, Editor of 'Bijnan Jeuti' also present on the occasion.It may be mention that ,Assam Science Society is one of the nationally recognized organizations that has played a pioneering role in increasing the interaction of people with science and in creating scientific temper amongst the different sections of the society specially the school and college students of Assam.

The Society has also been playing a pivotal and pioneering role in making the Assamese language a vehicle of scientific knowledge and communication. To serve the above purpose the Society has regularly been publishing the Assamese bimonthly science magazine (6 issues in a year) entitled BIJNAN JEUTI since 1961 for the benefit of the school and college students as well as teachers, educationists and technologists of Assam and also the general masses. This popular science magazine has been able to create a group of popular science writers in Assam, who regularly contribute in various journals and news papers in the state and outside. Almost every year, the Society publishes some special issues of the magazine on matters of topical interest like environment, health, agriculture etc.

Exempt agri officers from NRC

An acute manpower crisis has forced the agriculture department to urge the authorities to exempt its officials from the NRC works. In a recent letter, the agriculture director has requested the National Register of Citizens directorate to release its personnel in view of the ongoing pest-control drive against army worms in the state which is facing the worst pest attack since 1967 with 22 of the 35 districts being affected. New pig breed registered

Doom, a native variety of pig of Assam has been registered as a breed with accession number  INDIA_PIG_0200_DOOM_09006 by the Breed Registration Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. Bora stresses seriousness in agri sector
