Nagaon shines in HSLC results being top in the list

As soon as the results of HSLC exam 2009, reached the Christjyoti School ground , there was joy everywhere as Priyanuj Bhuyan of this prestigious school came top in the list. The same picture was experienced at Raha Higher Secondary School as Rishav Hajarika of this Assamese medium higher secondary school came up with 19 position in the list.

The end of a tiger, 'Most unfortunate' - says WWF official

A full grown Royal Bengal tiger that had strayed into human habitation in Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district four days back was shot dead on monday in a joint operation launched by Forest department and Police.The tiger created panic in the area for several days and attacked some-over enthusiastic onlookers and killed a person named Uttam Saikia (45) of Sakhmutha village under Koliabor subdivision. Bank of India opens branch in Nagaon

The Bank of India recently opened a new branch at Natun Bazar area in Nagaon district which is recognised the 12th of its kind in the State.Inaugurating the branch, Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon, Dr J Balaji urged the bank to be prompt in extending bank loans to marginalized sections of the society. People demand major train stoppage at Lanka railway station

Refined oil worth Rs. 7.7 lakh seized

Police personnels of Jagiroad Police station led by Dhaniram Bora, Officer in-charge of the said station seized 1,200 cans of stolen refined oil from a Silchar bound truck bearing registration number As-01-U-1741 at Palahguri 10 km from Jagiroad city,on Tuesday morning. The truck drivers Pankaj Kalita of Lakhimpur and Bablu Shah of Jalpaiguri have also been arrested on the spot. Police said that refined oil was worth of Rs. 7.7 lakh and it was bearing the name Ruchi Gold Palm brand.

A D C held for taking bribe

The Additional Deputi Commisioner of Morigaon district Haripada Roy has been sent to police custody on February 13 for allegedly demanding and taking bribes against Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs). According to the information, Morigaon district Deputy Commissioner, Apurba Kumar Phukan received several written complaints lodged against the ADC alleging that Roy had demanded bribe and taken bribe of Rs 500 from each of the applicants for issuing PRCs, on which he took the initiative and sent the former to police custody and locked up his office.

SIM card scam: BSNL engineer held

Mukul Pegu, subdivisional engineer ( SE ), BSNL, Lumding was arrested on January 23, for his active involvement in issuing 16 different Post paid SIM cards in different names through which ISD calls were made causing loss of revenue to the tune of Rs 20 lakh to the company.According to police source in Nagaon, the SDE Mukul Pegu was instrumental in paving the way to use his secret ‘Password’ activating those SIM cards through which ISD calls were materialised giving conference connection.
