SIM card scam: BSNL engineer held
Mukul Pegu, subdivisional engineer ( SE ), BSNL, Lumding was arrested on January 23, for his active involvement in issuing 16 different Post paid SIM cards in different names through which ISD calls were made causing loss of revenue to the tune of Rs 20 lakh to the company.
According to police source in Nagaon, the SDE Mukul Pegu was instrumental in paving the way to use his secret ‘Password’ activating those SIM cards through which ISD calls were materialised giving conference connection. The SDE continued this illegalities through two temporary employees named Sajal Devnath and Jagadish Singha, working in the Hojai office of BSNL to save himself from responsibilities and to prove himself innocent.
The scam came to light when police picked up the aforesaid two temporary employees on Wednesday night who revealed the involvement of Mukul Pegu.
An officer of BSNL ,Nagaon told Assam Times that Pegu was always present during night hours at Hojai technical section of telecom department when ISD conference calls were made through BSNL , although he was in no way related to the technical section.
Police now examining the ISD calls if they have any links with the extremist or fundamentalists groups.

RAHA: Nagaon police seized a huge consignment of ganja at Chaparmukh Railway station from Rani Kamlapati - Agartala Special train on Sunday night at around 2.30 am.

RAHA: Stepping up their drive against smuggling and selling of liquor in Raha, police jointly with the excise department seized huge consignments of foreign and country liquor from a house in the Demow area under Raha police station on Friday night.
