Nabajit Das, Lecturer in Zoology, B.H.college, Howly participated in the 10th students' conference on conservation sciences held in Cambridge University on March 24 to 26 and presented a paper on "Bengal Slowlories", the only nocturnal primate species of North-East India. He also successfully completed a one month internship programme at Oxford Brookes University,Oxford from March 27/09 to April 25/09.Mr. Nabajit Das is an active member of Primate Research Centre NE India and at present doing PHD on Bengal Slowlories under the guidance of Prof. P.C. Bhattacharjee, Dept of zoology, Guwahati University.He is the eldest son of Ghanasyam Das and Bhagya Das of Palangdihati, Barpeta .

Phase II witnesses over 62.69% turn out in Barpeta HPC

Over 62.69% polling was recorded in Barpeta HPC that concluded today. The polling was by and large peaceful in most areas except few small incidents. It was also noticeable that the poll percentage within the town areas was very poor. Though it was a cloudy day in the first half of the day, later the weather became good. The polling at different LACs recorded as: Barpeta LAC - 62.48%, Chenga LAC - 65.07%, Jania - 65.97%, Baghbar - 66.58%, Sarukshetri -60.02%, Patacharkuchi-48%, Bongaigaon-62%, Abhayapuri-North-72%, Abhayapuri South –65.5%, Dharmapur - 59.76%.

The campaign for the 2nd phase of Lok sabha election ended Barpeta Loksabha constituency ended peacefully. On the last day BJP supported AGP has taken out a vast election rally throughout the main roads of the town. Congrss candidate Ismile Hussain Khan, the former MLA in Barpeta LAC is facing challenge from the AGP candidate Bhupen Roy. On the contrary, the AUDF candidate Abdus Samad may be costly to the Congress, that may benefit the AGP.

Electronic media denied of getting eletion pass

For the ensuing election all of the correspondents or reporters of Barpeta were asked to submit their reliable documents at Barpeta District Administration for permission card/ entry card for the election by the election commission of India. A review meeting was held at Barpeta circuit house yesterday regarding the submission of the election expenditure of the candidates of various political parties of no 6 Barpeta Loksabha constituency. Dry Day declared in Barpeta

The Barpeta district Administration has declared dry day in Barpeta district under section 324(A) of 1945 Assam Excise Act regarding the situation of the second phase of Lok Sabha Election that will be held on 23rd April/09. According to this ban declared by Phanidhar Kalita, the district Magistrate of Barpeta, this order will be activated from April 21/09 (4pm) to April 23th/09 (4pm) and on 16th May/09, on the day of vote counting.
