AASU Kalaigaon Anchalik Committee has asked all the contesting candidates in the 8 Mangaldai HPC, irrespective of political affiliations. to clarify their stand on the completion of the ill fated MB road connecting Mangaldai to Bhutiachang via Kalaigaon-Tangla-Paneri etc.Arun Sarma, president and Jitumani Deka, secretary, AASU Kalaigaon Anchalik Committee in a press note, released on April 17 said that MB road had been the life line of the people of Darrang and Udalguri districts since British days. But the most important road had remained un-motorable since three decades back due to the negligence of ministers and MLAs belonging to any political parties. They also said that MB road had been the Assam’s only motorable link to Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh, not to mention of the tea gardens and Army Brigade HQ at Hatigarh. According to them although MB road had been declared as the state high way long back, misappropriation of huge amounts of money by politicians, PWD officials and contractors converted it to an abandoned road. ”Demonstrations by the various organizations including AASU, ABSU, AJYCP etc. failed to draw attention of the authority “ the press release said.. AASU asked all the contesting candidates of the LS polls (for Mangaldai HPC) to give written assurance to AASU stating their plan and views on the completion of the MB road; other wise of which AASU would not only boycott election process in Kalaigaon LAC under Mangaldai HPC,but would disrupt LS polls in the LAC.Both the AASU leaders warned not to underestimate peoples power in public matters. They also appeal all to come forward to stand by their demands.
