ONGC Assam Asset and ONGC Mahila Samiti, with the technical support of Assam Agricultural University,Jorhat launched the Horticulture Development Programme on International Women's Day. Two Horticulture Awareness Camps were organised at Sivasagar Girls College and Geleki College on 8th March 2009. The Professors from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat provided training about vegetable and fruits processing, flower crops and fruit crops.
Mr. L.K.Hazarika, Dean, Assam Agricultural University,Jorhat and Mr. Ashok Varma, Executive Director-Asset Manager, ONGC Assam Asset, inaugurated the Awareness Camp at Sivasagar Girls' College in presence of Mrs. Poonam Varma, President,ONGC Mahila Samiti, Assam Asset and Dr.Hemanta Kumar Phukan, Principal, Sivasagar Girls' College
Inaugurating the Horticulture Development Programme, Mr. Ashok Varma emphasized that this programme has been launched to provide entrepreneurship development opportunities in the field of horticulture, as there is a very big opportunity in developing horticulture in Sivasagar District.
Mr. L.K.Hazarika, Dean Assam Agricultural University complimented ONGC for this initiative and expressed satisfaction for the overwhelming response for the awareness camp. More than 500 participants, mostly women, attended the awareness Camp at Sivasagar. This was stated in a press release by ONGC.
