Tribal villagers carry a malaria patient to the hospital in a remote village of Bilaihum, about 75 kms west of Agartala, Tripura on 03-05-08. Mired in a controversy, the Assam govt has decided it will ask CBI to probe the rhino poachings in Assam. According to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, following an aroused demand, the government has decided to order a CBI probe into the killing of at least 27 rhinos in the Kaziranga National Park and the Rajiv Gandhi wildlife sanctuary in Orang since last December.The government earlier ordered the transfer of Kaziranga Divisional Forest Officer Bankim Sharma and formed a nine-member committee to ascertain the reasons behind it.Meanwhile, the panel has already started investigation and have visited the three rhino bearing areas of the state, Kaziranga, Orang and Pabitora game sanctuary.It may...
The United Liberation Front of Asom has charged a section of people with trying to buy good names with the ongoing peace process. In its latest edition of Freedom, ULFA has said only a political solution could help Assam restore permanent peace on its soil. The outfit has welcomed Dr Indira Goswami for her untiring bid to ensure peace process and criticized the government saying the government’s talks with the PCG failed only because of the lack of goodwill from the part of the government. In a powerful bomb blast one 5 year old child Alima Khatun (age 5) was died on the spot at Koilagaon under Bijni Amguri in Chirang District at around 12:20 PM on 29-04-08. Alima was playing along with the other children in front a house after they arrived from their schools while that tragic incident took place. In this incident three minor childrens Kismat Ali (7), Chandrabhan (10) and Rashid Ali (12) has been injured seriously.
