Preparations for the coming Seventh Elephant festival has begun along with the construction work of the pendal that formally started on January 18. The DC of Golaghat planted the Laikhuta with a ritual process in a brief function organized in Mihimukh field. The programme was also attended by SDO(c) of Bokakhat and the Director of KNP. The three day programme will begin from February 9 to 11 and will include a procession, inauguration of the festival, elephant worship, elephant sports, an exhibition, cultural functions and open seminars, SHG mela, boating in the Brahmaputra, daily elephant and jeep safaries to the Park, evenings with mahut in the Mahut village and a few others. 50 elephants will be taken to the festival to participate. 21 districts have also been invited to send SHGs for the mela. A budget of Rs 15 lakh has been chalked out to meet the expenditure and 13 sub-committees have been formed for smooth conduction of the festival.
