IED Blast on Railway Track in Kokrajhar, No Casualties Reported
A sense of shock gripped Kokrajhar early today following an IED blast on the railway track between Kokrajhar and Salakati railway stations. The incident, reported around 12:10 a.m., is believed to be the first such blast in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) since the signing of the BTR Peace Accord in January 2020.
According to sources, the explosive device was planted near the Singimari railway gate and damaged the track in two sections. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. A goods train had passed through the area just minutes before the blast.
Police and railway officials rushed to the site immediately after the incident. Repair work was carried out through the night, and normal train services resumed by morning.
“A thorough investigation into the incident has been initiated, and we are hopeful of identifying those responsible after a detailed inquiry,” said a senior police official. Local residents suspect that unidentified miscreants were behind the act.
The incident comes days after the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) won the recently concluded BTC elections and formed the BTC government on October 5, 2025. Local leaders, including Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary and UPPL General Secretary Raju Kumar Narzary, visited the site to assess the situation.
The blast drew widespread condemnation. UPPL strongly condemned the act and urged authorities to conduct a strict investigation. “We condemn the IED blast between Kokrajhar and Salakati. Such incidents have been absent for a long time, and their recurrence is alarming,” said Narzary. He further emphasized the importance of collective efforts by the government, civil society, law enforcement, and local communities to maintain peace in the region.
