In a glaring example of development failure, several families residing in Ward No. 9 of Borguri village panchayat, under Sapekhati mouza in the Sonari Assembly constituency of Charaideo district, continue to live without electricity. The area, located near the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border, remains in darkness despite repeated complaints and the state government's promise of universal household electrification.
While the Assam government has consistently claimed that electricity connections have been extended to all rural households under its flagship schemes, the ground reality in Borguri tells a different story. Dozens of families still await basic power supply, which affects not just their daily lives but also education, livelihood, and health.
Adding to the woes, workers employed under Modi Tea & Industries Pvt. Ltd in the area have also not been provided electricity in their residential quarters. This has severely impacted their quality of life, especially that of students and daily-wage earners who rely on electricity for study, work, and other basic needs.
The affected residents have time and again approached local authorities and submitted complaints, but no concrete action has followed. With growing frustration and hardship among the villagers, questions are being raised about the implementation and monitoring of rural electrification schemes in remote and border areas.
The situation in Borguri highlights the gap between policy declarations and actual delivery, leaving the community in uncertainty and neglect.
