Nazira College Unveils Statue of Founder Principal Avni Barthakur

Nazira: In a ceremony held today at Nazira College, the college community unveiled a statue of its esteemed founder principal, Avni Barthakur. The statue serves as a lasting tribute to Barthakur's dedication to education and his role in establishing Nazira College as a prestigious institution.

Sahitya Akademi Award-winning author and former DGP of Assam, Harekrishna Deka, had the honor of unveiling the statue. The ceremony also included a special address by senior journalist and writer Haider Hussain. Hussain expressed his gratitude to the Nazira College family and the residents of Nazira for commemorating Avni Barthakur's legacy. He described the day as a historic one for the people of Nazira.

The event, held in the college auditorium, witnessed a distinguished gathering. Dignitaries, college management, intellectuals from various fields, and a large number of students came together to celebrate Avni Barthakur's contribution to the social and intellectual landscape of Nazira. The presence of such a diverse group added solemnity and significance to the occasion.

Renowned journalist, writer, former President of the Sivasagar District Xahitya Xobha, President of the Nazira District Journalist Association, and former professor of Gargaon College, Durlove Buragohain, passed away today around 3 PM. He was 85. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
