Free medical camp for flood victims at Kamalpur

A free medical camp was today held at Borshil Girls LP School under Kamalpur revenue circle of Kamrup district for flood affected people of the area. The camp was personally organised by Dr. Akhtarul Islam, Rastriy Gaurav Award winner eye specialist from Baihata Chariali with the aim to provide medical services to poor and needy flood affected people of the remote area. About 600 patients from Borshil, Bamungaon,Bhaira, Chotshil,Kanikuchi, Borigog,Kumarpata,Kendukona and Maranjana villages were treated in the camp. Seven doctors namely Dr. Lakshy Pati Sarmah, Dr. Akhtarul Islam, Dr. Ariful Islam, Dr. Sajjadul Islam, Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Dr. Khairul Hussain and Dr. Iliasor Rahman rendered services to the patients. Medicines worth Rs. 70,000 were distributed in the camp.

Netaji's Birthday celebrated at Kamalpur

The 112th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated today at Kamalpur alongwith other parts of the country by the Kamalpur Nabajyoti Club with a day long programme. ULFA Cadre Apprehended

Kamalpur Police today apprehended one ULFA cadre namely Khargeswar Kalita (22) from Panitema village under Kamrup district. Police launched an operation acting on specific information and nabbed the 709 battalion cadre. According to Police, Khargeswar Kalita is a trained militant and was involved in extortion in north Kamrup. Police seized some documents related to ULFA from his possession. He is in the custody of Kamalpur Police station.

Woman killed in mishap

An woman was killed in an road mishap today took place at 3-30pm at Jalimura under Kamalpur PS in Kamrup district. According to Police sources a motorcycle going from Kamalpur towards Baihata Chariali was hit by a truck from back. The pillion rider of the bike namely Rumi Begum (26) was killed on the spot.

Two NDFB Cadre Apprehended at Goreswar

Troops of Red Horns Division of the Indian Army based at Goreswar today apprehended two hardcore NDFB cadres namely Ratan Deka and Rijen Boro from Goreswar in Bagsa district. Later both were handed over to Goreswar Police Station.

Two Killed in Road Mishap

Two persons were killed in an accident took place at Hajo under Kamrup district today at 1-30pm. According to the police sources the driver of bus No. AS-01/0444 lost his control while going to Kedar temple of Hajo and the bus fall down from the hills of Kedar temple.Two passengers of the bus namely Anil Das (26) and Nitujit Das (22) were killed on the spot and 10 others got injury. Both were resident of village Kumarhati under Barpeta district.

GM Shrivastava is new DGP of Assam.

Ghanashyam Murari Shrivastava has taken over the charge as the Director General,Assam Police from today. He is an IPS of Assam and Meghalaya cadre and of 1972 batch. Shrivastava was holding the post of DG, Civil Defence, Assam till date. The Government of Assam decided yesterday to appoint him as the DGP with the aim to improve security scenario of the state after the serial blast incident of 30th October. It is to be noted that the new DGP has also served as DGP, Tripura and IGP (Operation), Assam. Mr. R.N.Mathur, IPS, former DGP has been appointed as the DG, Civil Defence from today.

NH 31 blocked by flood victims at Kendukona for three hours

The National Highway 31 was blocked on Wednesday for three hours at Kendukona under Kamrup district by about two thousand people of the area under the banner of "Mathauri Punar Nirman aru Ban Sahajya Dabi Samittee, Puthimari". The protest event was started at 9 am and finished at 12 pm. The programme was supported by AGP, BJP, CPI(M), ARMCA, PLP, AUDF, AJYCP, AASU, SFI and various local oraganisations. Killing of scribe condemned by various organisations

The Kamalpur Press club has strongly condemned the killing of Jagjit Saikia, a Kokrajhar based scribe.The press club also demanded prompt and appropriate actions from Assam government to book the culprits for stringent punishments. A protest meet was held today at Kamalpur in Kamrup district under the presidentship of Muslim Ali Saikia,President of the press club.
