Assamese Anthology Film ‘Kahini Nohoi’ Pays Tribute to Hitchcockian Suspense
Assamese cinema is set to explore the enigmatic depths of storytelling with its second anthological film, ‘Kahini Nohoi’ (Not a Story), a suspenseful homage to the legendary Alfred Hitchcock. Seven years after the release of the state’s first anthology, ‘Ji Golpor Ses Nai’ (2019), this new project promises to unravel mysteries hidden in everyday life through three interconnected yet distinct narratives.
Inspired by Hitchcock’s mastery of thrill and intrigue, ‘Kahini Nohoi’ adapts celebrated literary works into cinematic tales, each helmed by a different director. The anthology format allows for diverse storytelling styles while maintaining a cohesive thematic thread—exploring the unseen tensions beneath ordinary moments.
The film brings together three acclaimed Assamese filmmakers: Prodyut Kumar Deka (known for ‘Samiran Barua Ahi Ase’ and ‘Surjyasta’), who returns to the anthology genre after his success in ‘Ji Golpor Ses Nai’. Rosy Bora, lauded for her poignant social drama ‘The Last Honour’, which tackled dignity and justice. Pankaj Kalita, whose upcoming film ‘Smriti’ has already drawn attention for its lyrical storytelling.
With casting underway, the team aims to blend fresh faces and seasoned actors to bring the complex characters to life. The project is not just a film but a celebration of Assamese storytelling, merging suspense with cultural nuance.
Producers hint at a release later this year, with promotional campaigns to follow. As anticipation builds, ‘Kahini Nohoi’ could mark a resurgence of anthology films in Assam, offering audiences a fresh, multi-layered cinematic experience.
