New album ‘Akash’ released

Recently, a new audio album with some fabulously composed tunes, entitled ‘Akash’ was formally released in a function held at the Auditek Sudio, by eminent artistes and musicians - Kula Barua, JP Das, Surjya Goswami, Beauty Sarma Barua, classical musician Damodar Bora, Pahari Das, Bhupen Uzir, Shanta Uzir, Kanika Bhattacharya, Pulok Banerjee, Nanda Banerjee and filmmaker Charu Kamal Hazarika. The album with ten songs produced under the banner of Melody Production features the voices of noted singer Shanta Uzir and Kumar Krishna. Engaged in a highly responsible job with a bank, Kumar Krishna earned his Sangeet Visharad in Indian classical music from Bhatkhande Music Institute. A singer who sings from the soul, Kumar Krishna touched the heart of listeners with his immaculate renditions in previous efforts, Assamese albums - ‘Tumar Batori’ and ‘Eman Maram’, and Hindi album ‘Dil Main Hai Pyar’. Interestingly, Kumar’s co-singers in ‘Dil Main Hai Pyar’ are popular Bollywood singers Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and Sadhana Sargam. Besides singing, writing and tuning songs, Kumar Krishna has written a number of critical essays that delves into the styles and patterns of Indian classical music. A perceptive lover of music, he has also to his credit song and poetry compilations.

The songs in ‘Akash’ stands out due to their gentle sweetness and soaring melody. Kumar Krishna delivers expressive vocal performances in the songs that conveys the themes of nature and romance. The songs are marked by the rare use of group violin that creeps in every now and then, blending perfectly for a downright beautiful sound. While Shanta Uzir renders three tracks, Kumar lends his vocals to six songs. One song is rendered in duet by Shanta Uzir and Kumar Krishna. The album’s two songs - ‘Gupone Tumi’ and ‘Roi Asu’ are composed by Khagen Mahanta, the rest are musically scored by Bhupen Uzir. The beautifully simple lyrics are written by Kumar Krishna himself.
