Iconic Assamese Song 'Auto-Rickshaw Chalao Ami Duyu Bhai' Gets a Fresh Spin in New Music Video
Guwahati: The timeless Assamese classic 'Auto-Rickshaw Chalao Ami Duyu Bhai', originally penned and composed by legendary musician Dr Bhupen Hazarika in the 1970s, has been revitalized with the release of a new music video titled 'Dignity of Labour.'
Directed by Ashok Bora and produced by Pranabjyoti Neog, the video was officially launched at the Guwahati Press Club on November 5, commemorating Dr Bhupen Hazarika's 12th death anniversary. Notable personalities, including novelist Leena Sharma, Manoj Saikia, chairman of Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation, and vocalist Mausumi Saharia, attended the event.
The original song, sung by Dr Bhupen Hazarika and his brother Jayanta Hazarika, remains a beloved piece of Assamese musical heritage. The new version, recreated by musician Rupam Talukdar and sung by Khanindra Hazarika, preserves the original charm while adding a contemporary touch. The music video features Achinta Raj Kashyap, Rupantar Das, Runumi Saikia, Boidujya Changmai, and Shivraj Debnath.
Leena Sharma, speaking on the occasion, highlighted the song's significance as a source of inspiration for Assamese youths to embrace all kinds of work with dignity and respect for every worker, regardless of background. The video aims to bridge generational gaps, resonating with both young and old audiences.
The 'Dignity of Labour' music video is now available on YouTube, offering a renewed experience of a cherished Assamese musical gem.
Note: 'Auto-Rickshaw Chalao Ami Duyu Bhai' translates to 'I Drive an Auto-Rickshaw, My Brother' in English.
