BOLENG, Aug 16: The inaugural "Short Stature Men's Volleyball Championship," featuring a unique net height of 7 feet 2 inches compared to the international standard of 7 feet 11 inches, concluded on August 15, 2023. The event took place at the Boleng general ground in the Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh and was exclusively designed for players standing between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches.
The North Eastern Sports & Cultural Organization (NESCO) orchestrated this historic tournament, marking a significant milestone in height-specific sports competitions.
In attendance at the final match of the tournament as the Chief Guest was Ojing Tasing, MLA of the 35th Pangin-Boleng Assembly Constituency. Notable figures, including Atul Tayeng, Deputy Commissioner of Siang District, Opir Paron, SP Siang, Gobo Yirang, SE PWD Boleng, as well as other heads of departments and public leaders of Siang District, graced the event with their presence.
The championship's grand finale witnessed the Siang Police Team emerging victorious with a 3-0 set victory against the Siine Mikang Volleyball Team. Dubom Bagra of the Siang Police Team secured the title of the Best Player of the tournament. Kardak Sora from the same team earned recognition as the Best Setter, while Washing Tatin of the Siine Mikang Team stood out as the Best Spiker. David Kena of the Karging Yayi Volleyball Team was honored with the Best Blocker award.
During the closing program, Ibrahim Pajing, Chairman of the North Eastern Sports & Cultural Organization (NESCO), reaffirmed the commitment to conducting similar competitions not only in volleyball but also in other height-dependent sports. These competitions will be categorized according to IP Height Classification, encompassing six distinct height classes:
- Very Short Height (Below 5' 4")
- Short Height (5' 4" to 5' 7")
- Medium Height/Normal Height (Above 5' 8" to 5' 10")
- Tall Height (5' 11" to 6' 2")
- Very Tall Height (6' 4" to 6' 6")
- Super Tall Height/Towering Height (6' 7" and above)
